Traits of Successful Surrogates

Successful surrogate mothers typically are married women over 21,with young children at home. As a group, they are bright, healthy, attractive mothers who are adventurous and enjoy new experiences. They do not smoke, drink or use non-prescribed drugs. They are very fertile and get pregnant easily. Many want to lose that extra 10 or 20 lbs….if and when they’re done being pregnant.
Most surrogates have a high-school education. Some have advanced degrees. Most are women who love being mothers and want to share the gift of life with those who can’t carry on their own.
Surrogate mothers seldom change their minds. Most are reliable, caring, ethical women who would not dream of keeping a couple’s baby for publicity or their own gain. They sincerely want to help their own families with the fee they will be earning but also want to make a real difference in the lives of others who need the kind of help only they can give.
Some surrogates don’t mind being egg donors and surrogates all rolled into one…”traditional” or “classical” surrogates. They typically shy away from heavy doses of cycle medications and are artificially inseminated to become pregnant. Said one traditional surrogate, “I never bonded with this baby the way I did with my own. I always thought of the baby as Bob and Mary’s. My egg would have wound up as a period on a pad. Instead of that, I was able to use it to make a couple’s dream come true.”
Successful surrogates have supportive husbands and/or families who understand their desire to do something very special and unique. Most are homeowners, with private health insurance, handy baby----sitters and reliable transportation for appointments and procedures.
Some surrogates are very outgoing. Others are quiet. Some want a lot of contact with the intended parents during the process or afterwards. Others leave it up to the parents. Whatever your personality type may be, honesty, openness, commitment and reliability are hallmarks of successful surrogates.
